The Second Annual Chauncy Glover Project Gala

On Friday, June 22nd, 2018, the second annual Chauncy Glover Project Gala took place at the Hobby Center for the Performing Arts in Houston, TX. The gala had an amazing turn out last year and was sold out. Click here if you’ve missed the 2017 Chauncy Glover Gala

The Chauncy Glover Project is a mentorship program that molds boys to men and provide the generation of young leaders with a tools kit for success. It was founded my ABC 13 news anchor , Chauncy Glover. Throughout the year, mentors give their time to assist young boys from elementary to high schools with the right tools to be advance in their everyday life.

If you’d ask me who inspires me, I’d say my family because they’re the best support system. I look up to my parents and older siblings , being the youngest. Unfortunately, many of these young boys didn’t have a father or mother figure due to look up to. Chauncy Glover stepped in with his team to make a difference in the lives of these young men.

At the annual gala, the public is able to hear about the different journeys and success stories at the gala.

This year, the theme is “There is a King in Me” and the gala was hosted by actor Kendrick Sampson. As always, the gala was an empowering experience. Kendrick Sampson pointed out an interesting fact .When you look at the demographic in this world, do you mostly see Caucasian? And the answer is no. Asians aren’t white, most of Africa is black. Central America is not white. Therefore, why are non-white called the minority? We are the majority. America has been brainwashed that if you’re not white , you are a minority. We have to teach the young generation that they are are the majority. If we collaborate instead of hating each other , we can rise. “Stop looking for a solution , you are the solution ” . Kendrick Sampson

Being unstoppable is what all these young men had in common. Many have gone through so much terror and thanks to the Chauncy Glover Project, they are triumphant.

It is not what your start with that counts but it is what you end up with that matters. Despite the fact that some of these young men have lost their parents at a young age and did not always make the right decision; they have realized that there is a king in them and amazingly transformed. They are confident, they feel loved and powerful and all of the seniors in the CGP program graduated high school and are going to college. They all promised to make us proud by being who they are meant to be which is to be Kings!
