This past Friday , I witnessed something super magical at the Queensburry Theater in Houston, TX!
The Chauncy Glover Project Gala was not your typical gala event, it was an experience and I was honored to be amongst positive personalities that truly made an impact in the community.

The Chauncy Glover Project was founded by three times Emmy TV News Anchor for ABC-news Houston Chauncy Glover.

The Beginning
Chauncy was reporting a breaking news story in Detroit, Michigan about a young man who was shot after allegedly trying to rob a coach. This terrible experience led him to return to the high school in order to make a difference by helping them become a better version of themselves.

Shortly after , he expanded the project to Houston which turned out to be a huge success. Here , he was able to work with young men from Wheatley High School, Westbury High School, Fleming Middle School, Navarro Middle School and Foster Elementary school.

At the gala event, these phenomenal young men presented an extraordinary show that perfectly told their stories; how they were able to overcome some of their deeper struggles. As previously mentioned, this gala was so unique. I’m glad that I always have tissues with me , because I shed tears hearing all of their stories.

Many of these young people were once told that they’ll never be anything in life, college was not even an option, being in the streets was the way of life . Chauncy Glover, and his team of mentors have started an exceptional and remarkable path for all of us to embark on. They believed in those young men and never gave up on them. Every gesture counts, they have helped these children by tutoring, assisting them with college applications(tutoring them for SAT, Exam preps, writing recommendation letters), speaking to them, pushing them to persevere, supporting them financially…etc
At the Gala, they were happy to announce that they all were accepted to renowned universities with scholarships! Some of the colleges include the University of Houston(go Coogs!! Yeah) , Texas A&M University, Blinn College , University of Virginia and more ! They promised to make of all us proud! The children of today are the future. To this day, CGP has put 40 young men to college. That is the way to go!
Last but not least, the event was hosted by actor Christian Keyes who also empowered these young men by sharing his rough childhood, from being abused and homeless to being a successful actor in Hollywood.
Some of Houston’s influential personalities were also honored:
U.S. Representative Sheila Jackson Lee, 18th Congressional District received the “You are Fearless Award” and Pastor Marcus Cosby of Wheeler Avenue Baptist Church was unable to attend but given the “Faith Forward Visionary Leadership Award”.

_________________________________________________________________________________________
Constable Alan Rosen, Harris County Constable’s Office Precinct 1 received the “Heart of Houston Award”

Darryl Gaines of NASA received the “Houston Game Changer Award”

Andre Johnson received the “Man of the Year” Award.

Many of these recipients have their own non profit organization such as CGP and all made a huge impact in the community!
